Pre-sales for the SAIC MG 07 kicked off on July 29, with five trim levels available and pre-sale prices ranging from RMB 125,900 to RMB 165,900. Positioned as a midsize sedan, the new model is built on SAIC’s all-new next-generation EV platform and is scheduled for official launch in late August.
The MG 07 measures 4,886 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,478 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm. In terms of exterior design, the front end features a star-ring through-type light cluster. Beneath the integrally stamped clamshell bonnet sits a 168-litre front trunk. The side profile adopts semi-flush door handles and frameless doors, paired with two-tone wheels and yellow brake calipers. At the rear, a full-width taillight set and an adjustable electric spoiler are fitted.
Inside the cabin, the MG 07 adopts an enveloping cockpit layout. A 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen is mounted at the centre, powered by the Qualcomm 8295P chip and equipped with the Inspire OS vehicle infotainment system.
For comfort features, the driver’s seat comes with an AI-powered adaptive seating system, while the front passenger seat offers zero-gravity functionality. Additional amenities include ventilated and heated rear seats, a 30-litre dual-zone refrigerator, a multi-functional console table, a panoramic glass roof, and a 21-speaker audio system.
On the intelligent driving front, the vehicle is equipped with a LiDAR and adopts Momenta’s R7 reinforced world model solution paired with the in-house developed X7 large-model dedicated chip. It supports AES automatic steering avoidance at speeds up to 130 km/h during nighttime driving.
Two powertrain variants are offered: all-electric and plug-in hybrid. The battery-electric version rides on an 800V high-voltage platform, delivering peak power outputs of 176 kW and 235 kW respectively, with CLTC electric ranges of 610 km, 650 km and 845 km. The plug-in hybrid variant is fitted with a 1.5L engine generating a maximum output of 82 kW, alongside a 152 kW electric motor, supporting a pure electric range of 185 km. Furthermore, the MG 07 comes standard with mCDC intelligent electromagnetic suspension across all trims.
The MG 07 represents a pivotal product for SAIC Motor, integrating its technological reserves, brand reshaping initiatives, global strategy and marketing innovation. It marks the group’s transition into a new phase of growth driven by technology-defined products.
SAIC Motor has invested nearly RMB 190 billion in research and development for intelligent electric mobility. The MG 07 serves as a large-scale showcase of these technological achievements, designed to translate technical strengths into market competitiveness and validate the commercial value of its R&D investments.
As MG acts as SAIC’s core export brand, the technology suite deployed on the MG 07 is set to enter European and other overseas markets to elevate the brand’s positioning and product competitiveness globally.
While MG has steadily expanded its influence overseas in recent years, its domestic new-energy vehicle product lineup remains relatively limited. The MG 07 is expected to boost brand awareness and become a blockbuster model, serving as a key catalyst for MG to rebuild its image in China’s new-energy sedan segment.
Nevertheless, the challenges facing the MG 07 cannot be overlooked. The 150,000-yuan new-energy sedan market is fiercely competitive, populated by established rivals including BYD Seal, Xpeng P7i, Deepal SL03 and Lynk & Co 07 EM-P. These competitors each hold advantages in brand recognition, user base or proprietary technologies, meaning the MG 07 must stand out in this saturated market.
Additionally, MG’s domestic reputation in the new-energy sector relies on sustained vehicle deliveries. SAIC also faces the practical challenge of maintaining profitability amid aggressive pricing. Whether the MG 07 can strike a balance between sales volume and profit margins remains to be tested by the market.
