Recently, we learned from official BMW China channels that its all-new all-electric mid-size sedan – the BMW i3 – has been officially launched. The new model continues to be offered in three trim levels, and further, it has undergone significant configuration upgrades from the previous generation, with a host of formerly optional features now made standard across all variants.

The newly launched BMW i3 remains largely unchanged from the previous generation in terms of exterior and interior design, as well as powertrain and driving range, with targeted upgrades made to select features. The 360° surround view camera, parking assist and reverse trace assist – all formerly optional extras on the entry-level trim of the prior model – are now standard equipment across the board. Meanwhile, the number of external vehicle cameras has been increased from 2 to 5, and ultrasonic radars from 8 to 12, aligning with the specifications of the mid-range trim.
In addition, the Head-Up Display (HUD) – once a standard feature exclusive to the top-spec trim of the previous model – is now standard on the mid-range trim, though it remains an optional extra for the entry-level variant. Front seat heating, previously only available on the top-spec trim, has been upgraded to a standard feature across all trims. Furthermore, the hands-free power tailgate, driver's seat lumbar adjustment and in-car 5G connectivity have all been elevated from optional extras to standard equipment for the entire lineup.
The all-new BMW i3 retains its dual charging port design, with the DC fast charging port located on the right rear fender and the AC slow charging port on the left front fender. In terms of dimensions, the 2026 BMW i3 has an overall length, width and height of 4872/1846/1481 mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 2966 mm – identical to the 2025 model.
The interior and standard equipment of the all-new BMW i3 see no notable changes. It still features the curved dual-screen setup consisting of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen, with an electronic gear selector, physical buttons and knobs positioned on the lower center console.
